Uber challenges Deliveroo with its new on-demand meal delivery service

Dispute Resolution

Expansion is on Uber’s mind, and this time, it does not concern taxi services.

Uber has launched its on-demand meal delivery service in Manchester this week (beginning 05.02.16), having begun this new venture in London last year.

Restaurants such as The Alchemist and Barburritto are only two of hundreds of Manchester city’s restaurants which have signed up to the UberEATS app.

Like Deliveroo, the service uses a network of couriers on bicycles and mopeds to delivery the restaurant quality food in the comfort of people’s homes.

With issues floating around the status of both Uber and Deliveroo workers, time will tell whether expansion may be a great idea, or whether the companies’ finances should be in the caution corner pending the amount of tax, compensation or other orders which may be given by the employment tribunal following the appeal later this year.

A representative for UberEATS told BigHospitality the company was hoping to expand to other cities but didn’t want to ‘ruin the surprise’ by revealing the exact locations.
