Very exciting to see some of Hedges’ younger farming clients in the Oxford Times talking about the challenges affecting the next generation of farmers and how they are working to address them.
Whilst these are difficult times for many farmers, with increasing land prices to contend with in addition to ongoing challenges including those surrounding diversification and sustainability (to name but a few), it is good to hear such positivity from a generation of new farmers who have so many more options open to them today and yet still feel committed to carrying on the family framing tradition.
Less mud and wellies and more science, technology and engineering. Thats the message the farming industry is determined to hammer home in its drive to attract new talent.
A growing UK population, less space to farm and an ageing workforce mean the agricultural industry needs to sign up 60,000 new employees by 2020.
