As a fan of social media this news gave me pause for thought. We all get so used to blogging and tweeting that perhaps we are in danger of losing sight of our audience.. as Mr Small, the MD of Baker Small solicitors, found to his cost.
Whilst it was clearly ill-advised to start abusing “the opposition” especially over such a sensitive topic Mr Small could not perhaps have envisaged quite how badly his situation would spiral.. only days after the offending tweets there is nothing but talk of lost clients, disciplinary action and insolvency. A salutary tale indeed.
Whilst as individuals we should all take stock and ensure we keep our social media content at a professional level (no tweeting whilst drinking must be an absolute rule!) employers should also ensure that they review their social media policies frequently and indeed check the content of what is being published in their name.
A law firm has been forced to apologise after the managing director posted a number of gloating tweets about winning a tribunal against the parents of a child with special educational needs.
Solicitor Mark Small, 36, of the Baker Small firm based in Milton Keynes, sparked an internet row after posting a series of tweets over the weekend which shocked and offended the parents of disabled children.
