Oxford landlords: requirement for licence from council

Landlords in Oxford might be forgiven for thinking that the odds are stacked against them at the moment. With changes to energy efficiency regulations, the right to rent rules that came into effect earlier this week and the increased SDLT rates from 1 April one might hope that we could have a period of calm and readjustment. But it seems not. Oxford City Council has resurrected its proposals to require private landlords to hold a council licence and will be debating the proposed scheme on 11 February. Private landlords in Oxford could soon need a licence for each of their properties under plans being proposed by the city council.
The authority said the move would help drive up standards of rented property.
