This is a really interesting article by the Independent looking at four typical negative relationship behaviours that when they coincide, more often than not, statistically lead to divorce.
From a divorce lawyer’s perspective, I see many of these behaviours perpetuate after divorce, leading to messier, more confrontational and therefore more expensive proceedings.
Therefore, not only should this article be a word of warning for those looking to save their relationship, but also those who have already separated, and want to resolve the division of their marital assets and disputes over children with minimal confrontation and expense.
a decade of research into marriage and divorce has lent further support to the idea that divorce is associated with specific negative behaviours.
One recent study of 373 newlywed couples, for example, found that couples who yelled at each other, showed contempt for each other, or shut off conversation about an issue within the first year of marriage were more likely to divorce as far as 16 years down the road.
